Forum: opensource_audio Subject: [solved] Permalink files no longer allow hotlinking?

I'm not sure when exactly this changed but I have started to receive complaints that files I have linked to on my site no longer appear correctly.

I used to be able to embed an audio file directly into a page by using the following code:

https://archive.org/download/WtnEdition164912-01-2017/1649_12-01-2017.mp3

Now all I get is a small link to download the file which takes me to https://archive.org/download/WtnEdition164912-01-2017/1649_12-01-2017.mp3 with a player in the screen.

My site is used predominantly by people who are blind and using screen-reader software and this has left an unacceptable experience for them.

Can someone please tell me why it is no longer possible to link directly to an mp3 file without being redirected to a player?

When I go to this page:
https://wtn.org.uk/edition-1649/

I see an embedded player with the expected controls.

Is there a different page you are referencing with your question? I'm not sure I can resolve you problem, but maybe just get more info so that when Jeff sees it, perhaps it will make more sense to him.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. This actually turned out to be a Wordpress bug where some of the Wordpress core javascript was interfering with the way the file was presented on some browsers.

I've actually had a discussion with Jeff off-line too.
